Picacho Peak Camp #1, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, is the only group in the State of Arizona whose members can claim lineage from those who fought for the Union Army in the Civil War, 1861-1865. The Camp takes its name from the only Civil War skirmish fought in the boundaries of the State, at Picacho Pass, Pinal County, on April 15, 1862.

Membership in the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is open to all those who can prove descent from a member of the Union forces. Associate membership is open to anyone interested in the Civil War, regardless of lineage.

Picacho Peak Camp #1 meets quarterly, in February, May, August, and November, at noon on the third Saturday at Hometown Buffet, 1312 Scottsdale Road, just south of McDowell Road. All persons interested in the Civil War are invited to attend. Each meeting features a presentation by one of our members or an invited guest, on a topic related to the Civil War. The Camp also publishes a quarterly newsletter, registers graves of Civil War veterans buried in Arizona, participates in historical and patriotic events, and provides educational presentations to schools and libraries.
